You read that right. Will Shortz and Merl Reagle will be guest starring in a crossword themed episode of The Simpsons this weekend. In addition, the New York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle will be related to the show somehow. Read more about it here.

Wordplay, the documentary about crossword puzzles, is one of the films screening at this year’s Philadelphia Film Festival. Carrie Rickey gave the film a middling review saying that the segments featuring Merl Reagle (a local favorite in Philly) and Bill Clinton were particularly engaging but she was less thrilled about watching people working on puzzles you couldn’t see in the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament segment. After the review, however, the article notes that the film’s first screening was sold out. At least in part due to Reagle’s popularity.
