Valentines CrushThe puzzle game SameGame has been around in form or another since 1985. In the game, you are presented with a grid filled with objects of different colors. You can clear the objects away by clicking on groups of two or more that are connected orthogonally. Well, there’s a new version for this time of year called Valentine Crush with a grid full of hearts and few twists thrown in. Like target hearts that must be cleared to advance to the next level. And a green broken heart that clears the hearts immediately around it regardless of color.

The Bay City Times reports an actual Valentine’s Day puzzle that was delivered yesterday. In this case, it was a heart shaped jigsaw puzzle with a marriage proposal on it with the pieces arriving at different times during the day.

Not too hard of a puzzle, it seems. But it’s the thought that counts, right?

According to a story in The Ann Arbor News, there is some precedent for sending Valentines with puzzles in them. From the story:

Other types of cards included a number of puzzle valentines that incorporated rebuses, acrostics or codes, says Rosin, and working out the puzzle would tell the name of the sender.

Valentine’s Sudoku

I came across the Valentine’s Day themed sudokus through Ian’s Messy Desk.  When I first saw the title of the post, I wondered what exactly a Valentine’s Day sudoku was.  Apparently, its a regular old sudoku with the squares colored and numbers filled in to make a love-themed picture.  It might have been nicer if the colors somehow figured into the solving of the sudoku, but still they’re fun sudokus for the day.  You could print them up and put them on Valentine’s cards for puzzle-lovers.
